Video crowdsourcing?

Not sure that this term truly applies.. Current UGV implementations could be called Video crowdsourcing..

But, over time, rather than farming out video jobs to an undefined, large group I think that individual videographers will be recruited and create a more formalized team – albeit virtual and short lived – but not entirely undefined..

The first videographer supported channel?

As you have probably heard, Verizon rolled out their FiOS TV service to quite a few markets nationwide. This deployment is a fiber to the home (FTTH) solution meant to provide TV service that competes with cable companies.

I happen to be a happy FiOS subscriber and closely follow any new developments..

Well, they recently announced FiOS1 – a new local information channel.. Here is a more in-depth summary provided by Paul Kapustka at NewTeeVee

What stands out in his overview is the following quote “from “trained” citizen video journalists Verizon has drafted and will send out into the streets with videocams, ready to film”

This is just the beginning.. while it sounds like they will only have 10 videographers on staff initially,  as they expand to new markets they will certainly want to extend their network of “trained” videographers that provide content..

Introduction Part 1

Traditional media is falling apart.. yes, crumbling.. where are we headed?

User Generated Video (UGV) has exposed an appetite for video among consumers that will drive many, many new business models. In 2006 almost all of these new sites were focused on a wide range of video topics – most of which was provided by amateur producers of video.

The new trend will be to take advantage of the video “crowdsourcing” that user generated video has  invented and migrate it towards professional videographers that can provide highly relevant, quality local video content to a wide range of sites…

This blog will watch this space..
